Barrick faces US$23.2M fine for error in Dominican gold shipment

Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency on Monday affirmed that Barrick Gold Corp. faces a fine as high as US$23.2 millon for errors found in the shipping manifest for the gold and silver ore called dorĂ©, or twice as much as the cargo’s worth.

“In principle there was a mistake in the registry of origin, from there we will determine if there was another error,” Customs said in relation to Barrick Gold’s description that the dorĂ© was from the U.S.
It said the penalty is double the value of the merchandise declared.
Although gold mining exports say the total value of the eight crates inspected was of US$17.0 million, but Customs deputy director Gregorio Lora didn’t confirm or deny the figure.
He said the Customs Law will be “strictly enforced.”

Customs director Fernando Fernandez said Thursday it suspended Barrick’s exports through Las Americas International Airport due to a routine physical verification in compliance with Customs law, because in its view the miner didn’t respond to a March 7 notification to specify each of the metals in the cargo manifest.
He said the requirements weren’t fulfilling, for which the ore cannot leave the country.

The officials from barrick Gold disrespect the president, disrespect the country and have a cocky attitude to the medias and everyone else.
They are extremely polluting the Dominican Republic with heavy metals and cyanide as well, not to mention the illegal contract and the bribe they paid in DR, as they do in every single country.

They are NOT above the law

Let them paid once for all!
